Background
Copenhagen-based jewellery brand, Soï, launched during the COVID-19 lockdowns, selling stunning pieces paired with messages of hope and self-confidence, inspired by the founders’ backgrounds in self-belief workshops. With around 90% of their business coming from B2B sales, the team needed a platform that could keep pace with them.
The challenge
When pivoting during the COVID-19 lockdowns, Soï’s founders were processing jewellery orders manually. As their business began to take off, the team wanted to maintain a level of efficiency and started researching B2B eCommerce platforms that could support their growth.
When Anna and Frederik began building their wholesale channel, they faced the usual start-up challenges: limited resources, manual processes, and a need to scale without complexity. Ultimately, the business needed a cost-effective solution that provided in-demand B2B functionality while allowing them to invest key funds into other value-adding projects, too.
This became especially important as they started selling internationally; they required a tool that provided multi-currency support, cross-border shipping, and a range of payment options. The team wanted their buyers to be able to purchase using Net 30 terms, for example, as well as invoicing and traditional ordering methods.
The solution
They were able to get up and running with SparkLayer quickly, adding B2B functionality to their existing Shopify store. Although 90% of their business is wholesale, it was important to maintain a B2C store for their other buyers.
Using SparkLayer’s Customer Groups has allowed the jewellery brand to create bespoke product and price lists. The team can manage their various channels and markets this way, ensuring each buyer sees their bespoke, agreed pricing. This also allows them to manage multiple currencies and taxes.
SparkLayer’s Sales Agent tool has also been instrumental in Soï’s B2B journey. This has been particularly helpful for building and maintaining successful relationships with customers who prefer more traditional ordering methods.
For example, some wholesale buyers will email over their order, so Soï can log into the customer’s account and populate a basket for them. They can then either send the basket order to the customer for approval or process it on their behalf once permission settings have been established.
The results
Soï have seen a significant 73% increase in average order value (AOV) since implementing SparkLayer. They attest this in part to the order rules they’ve set up - establishing minimum order quantities, basket rules, and shipping configurations.
The platform’s ease of use has also contributed to the increase in not only customers buying online from them, but also purchasing more products and repeating orders.
The brand implemented SparkLayer’s features to create a clean, frictionless experience for wholesale customers. This includes the Sales Agent tool, allowing the team to bring their legacy customers and more traditional buyers along on the journey with them.
This has empowered existing customers and encouraged retention, as well as attracting new buyers who prefer modern, 24/7 B2B ordering platforms.
“In the first few weeks of doing B2B, we did it all manually - we took a few orders, and then it became very clear we needed to get something set up and drive efficiency before we went much further.
I thought the B2B engine that Shopify had was way too expensive for our needs, and then I tested out SparkLayer and really liked it. It was very simple to set up - I think they have exceptional customer service. So very quickly, we got SparkLayer, and it's been part of what we've been doing from the beginning, and it's just worked really well. I'm very happy with it.
Our customers also really like it - they’ve told us that when brands have a B2B webshop to order from, it’s more professional and they prefer it. We’ve actually seen a 73% increase in average order value since using SparkLayer and its features!” ~ Frederik Leopold, Co-Founder and CEO
